NMMAF was founded in 2014 as the National governing body for amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in Nigeria.

Following the emergence of Kamaru Usman, Israel Adesanya, Kennedy Nzechukwu, and Sodiq Yusuff in the UFC there has been significant attention to Nigeria's talent to succeed in mixed martial arts as the Federal Government approved the recognition of Nigeria mixed martial arts Federation (NMMAF), as one of the National sports federations that the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development oversees and controls.

Recall that the NMMAF was founded in 2014 as the National governing body for amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in Nigeria.

NMMAF is the body in charge of amateur mixed Martial arts championship and development of the sports in the federation.

Why we approves NMMAF - Minister

The Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare has revealed the reasons for approving the Federation.

He disclosed that after series of interfaces between the Federation's Board and the Ministry for meeting the conditions.

Dare urged the Federation to work towards discovering and developing talents from the grassroots for the game.

He appealed to the fedration to raise the game's stature to that of a premier sport by sticking carefully to its standards as well as creating and maintaining strict rules.

He said, "having satisfied the condition precedent, pursuant to NMMAF's acceptance to abide with the Code of Governance of all National Sports."

He stated further that "the recognition has also saddled the Federation with the responsibility to develop, regulate and ensure the safety of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) as a thriving Sports in Nigeria in line with global best practices."

The Mixed Martial Arts Game is reputed to be one of the world's fastest growing Sports with an estimated 449 million followers worldwide.

Pulse Sports reports that the Muson Center in Lagos will host 10 international fights for the Battle of the Gladiators mixed martial arts (MMA) showpiece.

Lagos hosted the next Spirit Of Warrior Mixed Martial Arts tournament.

The MMA event was organized by Akalaka Spirit of the Warrior promotion and will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

The Spirit of the Warriors event is just another opportunity for aspiring MMA stars in the west African region to horn their craft.
