Man City's £53 million signing is in hot water after allegedly stealing from a 58-year-old man.

Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes was reportedly arrested in Madrid last month on charges of theft.

This is according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, who say that the 25-year-old Portuguese star was taken into custody by the National Police on September 8 at La Riviera nightclub.

The incident reportedly unfolded when Nunes allegedly stole a 58-year-old man's phone in the bathroom of the club.

Nunes was in Madrid with friends during the international break, as he did not make the Portugal squad.

The arrest is said to have taken place at around 5:30 AM, and the police report suggested that the phone was found in Nunes’ possession in his hotel room.

As per the aforementioned outlet, the Manchester City star allegedly grabbed the phone after the man tried to photograph him without his consent.

Other witnesses also claimed the victim touched Nunes with the phone in hand, leading to a misunderstanding where the player reacted angrily, assuming a picture was taken.

Nunes was then arrested and jailed briefly before being bailed, pending trial.

Despite the arrest, Nunes, who is reportedly on a mouth-watering £130,000 per week salary at the Etihad, remains a crucial part of Manchester City’s squad.

The former Wolves midfielder featured in Man City’s recent Champions League win against Slovan Bratislava, and manager Pep Guardiola is expected to keep him in the lineup for the upcoming Premier League fixture against Fulham
