The Ruiru Sports Club is poised to be a battle ground as top lady golfers battle for glory in the KLGU Open meet.

The stage is set for a thrilling showdown as top regional female golfers gather at the prestigious Ruiru Sports Club for the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Open Meeting.

The highly anticipated three-day event, running from Friday, April 4, to Sunday, April 6, marks a historic first for the well-manicured course in Kiambu County.

This edition of the Golfer of the Year (GOTY) series brings an exciting format, featuring a 54-hole World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) tournament alongside a 36-hole subsidiary event.

The inclusion of the subsidiary event broadens competitive play opportunities, ensuring more golfers get a taste of the action and prestige that come with the KLGU Open.

Lady Captain Rodah Mukami expressed confidence in the course’s impeccable condition, stating, “Players will have a fantastic experience. This being the first time for the ladies in Ruiru makes it even more special. We as a club are ready to make it a memorable event.”

Among the star-studded lineup is Njoro Golf Club’s Mercy Nyanchama, a three-time reigning GOTY Champion.

Nyanchama, currently tied for the top position in the standings with 20 points alongside Eldoret Golf Club’s former Lady Captain Esther Chumo, is determined to maintain her lead.

“I’m hoping to play well at Ruiru and excited to participate this weekend. This is a fantastic opportunity to not only enjoy the sport but also connect with fellow golfers. I’m looking forward to a day of good competition, camaraderie, and of course, some great golf,” said Nyanchama.

Hot on Nyanchama’s heels is Golf Park Club’s Margaret Njoki, currently in third place with 18 points.

Chumo and Njoki are set to provide stiff competition, making the battle for GOTY points all the more intense.

Adding to the thrill, defending champion Joyce Wanjiru of Kiambu Golf Club will return to the course, ready to fend off challenges from both local contenders and elite amateur players from Tanzania and Uganda.

With the best female golfers from East Africa converging in Ruiru, the tournament promises an electrifying competition.
