Zimbabwe players have been rewarded big bucks for qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at the expense of Harambee Stars.

Zimbabwe players have been rewarded handsomely for qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at the expense of Kenya.

The Warriors finished second in their qualifying group and sealed their ticket to AFCON following a 1-1 draw with Harambee Stars last month and their achievements have been rewarded by the country’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa welcomed the players at State House, Harare on Tuesday December 3 where each of them, as well as members of the technical bench, were awarded $6,500 (Ksh838,500).

Zimbabwe’s road to AFCON 2025 in Morocco was masterminded by coach Michael Nees, who arrived two months before the qualifiers began, and saw them win two, draw three and lose one of their six matches to return to the tournament for the first time since 2021.

“We’re so happy. We’re able to be here to be recognised and to have the President showing love and taking time for this. We truly appreciate and we feel so humble. We’re happy and the support is just amazing,” star forward Khama Billiat said as per Zimbabwe outlet ZiFM Stereo.

Like Kenya, Zimbabwe also played their home matches out of the country due to lack of an approved stadium but did enough to qualify.

They started with goalless draws against Kenya and Cameroon before back-to-back wins (1-0 and 3-1) against Zimbabwe, followed by the 1-1 draw with Harambee Stars after which they lost 2-1 to the Indomitable Lions.
