Gor Mahia interim head coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno has revealed what his charges have to do if they are to bring home their 22nd league title following resounding victory over Ulinzi Stars.
Gor Mahia interim coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has urged his players to give their all in the remaining matches of the FKF Premier League as they aim for their 22nd league title.
The call to action follows an emphatic 3-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars at Machakos Stadium on Saturday, a result that has reignited their title ambitions.
The defending champions bounced back from a narrow 1-0 loss to Police FC with a commanding performance against Ulinzi Stars, a team desperate to end their six-match winless streak. The win propelled Gor Mahia to 21 points, just three shy of league leaders KCB, with a game in hand.

'I was threatened at gunpoint'- AFC Leopards' Clifton Miheso reflects on nightmare stint with South Africa's Golden Arrows
Miheso has advised fellow footballers to carefully read and understand their contracts after opening up on his nightmare spell at South African club Golden Arrows, where one of the club's officials threatened him 'at gunpoint' amidst a negotiation dispute.
Despite the tantalizing prospect of overtaking KCB at the summit, Zico emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and taking one match at a time.
“It was very important because the win against Ulinzi Stars was a catch-up fixture. It is only Kenya Police and us who played [in midweek]. We know where we are ahead of the next game against Kariobangi Sharks,” Zico said post-match.
Acknowledging the pressure on the team following their recent loss, Zico commended his players for their determination and composure throughout the game.
“The team was under pressure. Not just me. Congratulations to the boys. They showed strong character and were on top of the game from the starting whistle till the end,” he remarked.
Gor Mahia’s dominant display against Ulinzi Stars saw them create numerous chances, with the 3-0 scoreline a reflection of their attacking prowess. While the margin could have been wider, Zico remained upbeat about the team’s ability to generate opportunities.
“Missing chances is normal. For you to score three goals, it shows you are creating opportunities,” he noted. “The only thing is that it shows you are creating opportunities, and once you create opportunities, you score.”
With the league title race heating up, Zico reiterated the importance of winning every remaining match without obsessing over the standings.
