Sofapaka coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has explained how he plans to ensure they retain their Premier League status.
Sofapaka head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has expressed confidence his side can survive relegation despite losing heavily in their last encounter against Kenya Police in the quarter-finals of the FKF Cup.
Sofapaka just could not get into the game as Police cruised to an easy 4-0 win last weekend, with goals from David Okoth and Marvine Nabwire either side of brace from Samwel Onyango.
Batoto Ba Mungu have gone through numerous problems both on and off the pitch this season. A big number of the squad were given their marching orders due to a go-slow over delayed payment of their wages, while others have been unfortunate through injury, which has forced Zico’s hand.
To rub salt in the wound, the 2009 Kenyan Premier League champions were slapped with a player transfer ban for failing to meet the end of the bargain with Burundian defender Moussa Omar

Relentless Gor Mahia force hapless Police into tactical retreat
The cops have gone back to the drawing board and devised fresh plans after fruitless pursuit of K'Ogalo.
However, Zico is not one to cry over spilt milk, and he has revealed that his players are working as hard as they can to retain their Premier League status come the end of the season.
“We are working very hard to achieve our objective which is to remain in the league,” Zico said.
“We will then plan for next season. We have a very long way to go and it is a very difficult job when you are trying to build a team while in the competition “
“We are trying. These are positives we will take from here and then we will move on.”
Zico was quick to praise Roy Okal and Sunday Ikhekhai, two natural midfielders who have been forced to play as centre-backs in recent weeks due to the unavailability of players.
“We have a problem. Our central defenders have been injured and we have been forced to use the two midfielders as center-backs. Moving forward, I think that is an issue we can resolve.”
Sofapaka are currently 15th on the league standings after 27 games. They will face Kariobangi Sharks and Shabana in their next two league fixtures with an eye on staying up come the end of the season.
