Tanzania champions Yanga have dismissed Argentine coach Miguel Gamondi following their recent shock loss to minnows Tabora United even though they trail league leaders Simba by just a point.
Tanzanian champions Yanga have sacked head coach Miguel Angel Gamondi despite being second on the Premier League table and just one point behind leaders Simba SC.
Simba confirmed Gamondi’s dismissal on Friday, ending his one-and-a-half-year spell in charge of the Dar es Salaam giants with his sacking coming after back-to-back league losses.
Yanga lost 1-0 to Azam FC on November 2, in what was their first defeat of the season, but a 3-1 thrashing at the hands of Tabora United five days later may have accelerated his departure.

7 African leagues with the highest prize money
South Africa’s Premier Soccer League recently announced an increase in prize money to its champions starting this season but which African league pays the most to its winners?
It is still a shocking decision nonetheless given Yanga have managed 24 points from 10 matches, just one behind bitter rivals Simba, who are enjoying a good run under their new South African coach Fadlu Davids.
“The Yanga management would like to inform the public that the club has parted ways with head coach Angel Miguel Gamondi. The club has also terminated the contract of assistant coach Moussa Ndaw,” said a statement from Yanga, while adding that the club is in the process of finding a new coach.
One name set to join Yanga is Abdihamid Moallin, who recently left Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC) FC as head coach, with reports in Tanzania saying he is set to link up with the league winners as an assistant coach.
With Gamondi’s sacking, it remains to be seen if Moallin will still join Yanga as assistant coach under a new tactician or if he will be elevated to the big seat.
Argentine coach Gamondi joined Yanga at the start of the 2023-24 season following the departure of Tunisian Nasreddine Nabi and led them to the league title last term but was facing a stiff challenge from a rejuvenated Simba this campaign.
