FKFPL Wounded Shabana, Muhoroni Youth face off with view to ease relegation fears

Both sides have had different challenges but will be seeking to get the better of each other on Saturday afternoon in the quest to steer away from the jaws of relegation.

Shabana will be hosting Muhoroni Youth at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay county in a relegation six-pointer on Saturday afternoon as they seek to end their bad run of form.

The Glamour Boys are out to survive relegation back to the National Super League at the first time of asking, having already endured a tumultuous season that has even involved parting ways with head coach Sam Okoth.

They will, however, have their work cut out, considering they are missing around 10 key players to injuries and suspensions, including experienced midfielder Eugene Mukangula and striker Enock Agwanda.

Reports indicate that the burly Mukangula wants out just six months after joining the KPL returnees while Agwanda is out of the match-day squad.

Ivorian Frank Ouya and striker Johana Mwita are the other players missing as they have already left the club.

Interim coach Caleb Aringa has, however, expressed confidence that the side are in optimistic mood despite having just 21 players in the camp and is confident of a good result against Muhoroni.

“Despite having a depleted squad of 21 players due to suspensions and injuries, we have had good preparations and are ready to tackle Muhoroni Youth,” Aringa said, as quoted by The Star.

“This is a must-win game for us. We want to get our campaign back on track. Any more slip-ups will be costly to our ambition of leaving the danger zone.”

Shabana have accumulated 14 points and sit 16th on the table, having won three, drawn five and lost eight of their 16 league games this season.

Muhoroni Youth, on the other hand, are looking to extend their two-match unbeaten streak.

Their last victory, a 1-0 triumph over Sofapaka in the final game of 2023, has given them a slight edge over Shabana FC in the standings

Head coach Charles Odera will be scratching his head considering just a handful of players reported back from the Christmas break following reports that some of them are staging a revolt due to delayed salaries.

The situation has been further exacerbated by the recent departures of key players, including goalkeepers Ezekiel Owade, Tom Muthoni, and striker Collins Neto, all of whom left the club citing unpaid salaries as their primary reason.

Currently positioned 15th on the table with 15 points from 16 matches, Muhoroni Youth have managed only three wins, alongside seven losses and six draws.
