With Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers coming up, Victor Osimhen's fitness has come into question
Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen finally got off the mark for Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig, but his maiden goals also came with disappointment after the Super Eagles star was forced off at halftime during a draw against Kasimpasa.
Osimhen opens Galatasaray account
After his acrimonious split from Napoli in the summer, Osimhen finally repaid the faith Galatasaray put in him by securing his services on loan, as the Nigerian star got on the scoresheet in the 3-3 draw.
Osimhen, who already has three assists to his name as a Galatasaray player so far finally turned from provided to scorer, netting his first goal for the Turkish club in the 20th minute of the tie against Kasimpasa with a simple finish after a brilliant Abdulkerim Bardakcı cross.
The Super Eagles star soon doubled his tally in the match and for Galatasaray with a worldie of a strike, swivelling in the box and volleying the ball into the roof of the net to make it 2-0 to Galatasaray.
Injury worry for Nigeria as Osimhen limps off
Osimhen’s two goals for Galatasaray would have excited Nigerian fans ahead of the upcoming international break, but what happened next would have sent fans of the Super Eagles into anguish.
With mere minutes left in the first half, Osimhen went down in a heap following a challenge from Kasimpasa goalkeeper Andreas Gianniotis and gestured to the bench that he would be unable to continue.
The Super Eagles star was forced off at half-time due to the injury and his demeanour would serve as a source of concern for Nigeria ahead of the impending international break.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles play an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier double-header against Libya on the 11th and 15th of October and will be hoping that Osimhen’s most recent injury setback does not rule him out of crucial national service.
