Who is Wilfred Ndidi?
Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi is a 26-year-old professional football player who plays as a defensive midfielder for the Super Eagles of Nigeria and English club Leicester City.
Ndidi was born on December 16, 1996, in Lagos, Nigeria and grew up in the barracks as his father was a serving Army officer before his retirement.
He had a humble beginning and has spoken in the past about how his parents objected to his footballing ambitions in the earlier years zs he told Leicester Mercury.
The defensive midfielder started playing football as a youngster in his day at Command Children's School.
Ndid started his career with Nigerian academy, Nath Boys where he excelled and caught the eye of foreign clubs before eventually joining Belgian KRC Genk.
Genk paid a €180,000 transfer fee to Nath Boys on January 14, 2015, to sign the then-18-year-old Ndidi on a two-and-half-year deal.
After two years and 83 games for Genk, Ndidi was on the move again, this time joining Premier League club Leicester City who paid £17 million to sign him on December 6, 2016.
He signed a five-and-half-year contract with the Foxes which was due to expire in the summer of 2022 but he started drawing interest from big clubs which led to Leicester offering him another lengthy extension.
In August 2018, just a year and a half since joining, Ndidi signed a new six-year contract with Leicester City which still runs and will expire in the summer of 2024.

Wilfred Ndidi Career
Ndidi started his professional career in Lagos playing for academy side Nathaniel Boys. In January 2015, a 19-year-old Ndidi made the move from Nath Boys to Belgian outfit Genk for a fee of around £150,000.
He joined as an 18-year-old and left as a 20-year-old, having played 83 games and scoring seven goals for the club.
After two successful years in Belgium including some eye-catching performances in the Europa League, Ndidi made the move to former English champions Leicester City for £17 million.
The Nigerian evolved into one of the best defensive players in Europe almost immediately, establishing himself as a key player in the Leicester City midfield and sometimes in the heart of the defence when required.
Ndidi’s performances for the Foxes consistently attracted attention from some of the best clubs in the world but Leicester tightened their grip on their star asset.
The club obviously succeeded in their efforts to keep him as the player remains on their books even as Leicester City have now been relegated to the English Championship.
So far, Ndidi has the 2021 FA Cup trophy to show for his time at the club as well as the Community Shield the following season.
He has so far scored 11 goals and assisted 12 in 237 games for Leicester City and counting but it remains to be seen if he will continue with the club in the Championship next season.

Wilfred Ndidi Super Eagles Career
Ndidi was called up to the Super Eagles squad in October 2015 for a doubleheader against DR Congo and West African rivals Cameroon and he played both games as a substitute under then-manager Sunday Oliseh.
The Leicester City man made his Super Eagles debut in the final minutes of the friendly game against DR Congo, playing a total of seven minutes before making his second appearance three days later when he replaced then Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel in the 63rd minute of a 3-0 win against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
Since his 2015 debut, Ndidi has gone on to represent the Super Eagles at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt and the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
Ndidi has made a total of 52 appearances for the Super Eagles so far and counting but is yet to open his goalscoring account for the national team.
