Sofapaka head coach Robert Matano has bemoaned poor officiating in their 1-1 draw against Police FC at the Dandora Stadium on Wednesday.

Sofapaka head coach Robert Matano has voiced his frustration over officiating in his team’s 1-1 draw with Police FC in a rescheduled FKF Premier League (FKF-PL) match held at Dandora Stadium on Wednesday.

The Batoto ba Mungu took an early lead through Joseph Kuloba, holding onto their advantage into halftime before events turned against them in the second half.

Matano’s side dominated the opening stages, with Kuloba finding the net in the 8th minute.

Despite Police FC’s attempts to rally, Sofapaka maintained their lead until halftime.

However, the second half started unfavorably for Matano’s men as Police FC equalized in the 51st minute after David Okoth found the back of the net, restoring parity.

The game took another twist in the 62nd minute when Police FC’s Abud Omar received a red card for violent conduct, giving Sofapaka a one-man advantage for the remainder of the match.

Sofapaka pushed hard to capitalize on this advantage, and in the dying moments, Nick Mabuka appeared to have scored the winning goal.

However, his strike was controversially ruled offside, sparking Matano’s ire.

Speaking after the match, Matano expressed disappointment over the decision, claiming it cost his side a deserved victory.

“It is one point that we are grateful for, but we were denied three points today. The game was good, and the boys gave a really good account against a strong Police side with experienced national players,” said Matano.

“Our boys did well, even scoring a goal that was ruled out, and the officials couldn’t justify the offside.”

Despite his frustrations, Matano highlighted Sofapaka’s progress this season.

"We are building a very strong team. We brought in 24 players and it has not been long but you can see the boys are gelling really well. It's now four games that we have gone without a loss and in my opinion we were supposed to win today but we suffered an injustice," he added.

"I can't say we will win the league today but we are building. It has only been eight matches into the season and I believe eventually we will be able to compete."

Sofapaka remains unbeaten in their last four games, an encouraging sign for the tactican as he continues building a cohesive unit able to challenge for the title.
