Matchday 25 in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League was action-packed if the results were anything to go by.

Weekend wins for title-chasing Police and Tusker, puts Gor Mahia's title defense under threat considering that the goalless draw against AFC Leopards could be a priceless point for Ingwe but two points lost for the record league champions.

Harambee Stars prospect Mohammed Bajaber was the hero as his 48th minute goal was all that leaders Kenya Police needed to silence hard-fighting Bidco United.

Tusker on Saturday, won by the same mirgin courtesy of Deogratius Ojok's solo strike. The Ugandan import found the back of the net in the 70th minute, bringing much relief to the brewers for making it back-to-back wins. The Ruaraka-based side had gone five matches in the league without a win previously.

These results have impacted the title race involving Gor Mahia, Tusker and Police. Leaders Police, aiming to win their first-ever title, have opened a five-point gap against third-placed Gor Mahia.

The law enforcers boast 48 points more than Gor Mahia's 43, although Sinica Mihic and his charges have a game in hand. Tusker are on 47, with nine matches left to the end of the season.

Gor Mahia have marched to the last two league titles unchallenged. The three-way title challenge this season puts their chances under jeopardy.

Although coach Sinica Mihic has steadied the K'ogallo ship since taking over in February, he will come under thorough scrutiny should he fail to deliver the title. Gor Mahia are used to winning and part of the reason coach Leanardo Neiva was sucked was because of poor results.

Although it is still too early to rule out Gor Mahia from retaining their title, their next three fixtures will reveal a true picture of how things will turn out to be come the end of the season.

Gor Mahia are set to settle scores again with AFC Leopards at the Nyayo Stadium in the second leg of the Mashemeji derby on April 6. Three days later, they entertain Sofapaka before a crunch fixture against newbies Mara Sugar.

The upcoming matches will likely put more pressure on Mihic especially if he fails to secure maximum points against perennial rivals AFC Leopards now that K'Ogallo will be the home team.
