Both teams had each scored one goal at the time of abandonment.

Sunday's Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) showdown between Muhoroni Youth and Kenya Police took an unexpected turn as inclement weather wreaked havoc on the pitch, forcing officials to abandon the match.

The game had witnessed a thrilling first half, ending in a 1-1 draw, before Mother Nature intervened at Muhoroni Stadium in Western Kenya.

Tito Okelo created the best of the chances in the opening minutes of the match but Uganda international Michael Kagiri stood firm in the Muhoroni goal.

Marvin Nabwire of Kenya Police opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a brilliant strike, sending the visiting fans into raptures.

However, Muhoroni Youth quickly responded, as Christopher Raila leveled the score at the stroke of halftime.

As the game progressed the weather took an unexpected turn. Dark clouds gathered overhead and rain started to fall heavily over the Muhoroni pitch.

Players, officials, and fans watched as the playing surface quickly turned into a waterlogged quagmire making it impossible for the beautiful game to continue.

Referee decisions are never easy, but in this instance, match officials, after consulting with both team captains, made the difficult call to halt the game.

"Muhoroni Youth v Kenya Police match has been postponed due to heavy rains in Muhoroni on Sunday evening," stated the Football Kenya Federation Premier League in an official statement, echoing the sentiments of fans and players alike.

Kenya Police FC also released a statement expressing their understanding of the situation.

"Due to heavy rain, today's football game has been canceled for safety reasons. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Stay tuned for updates on rescheduling," the club wrote.

The postponement left both sets of players and their respective fans with mixed feelings.

While they understood the importance of player safety and the integrity of the game, the excitement and anticipation for this clash had been palpable in the days leading up to the fixture.

Match officials have been forced to reschedule the game to Monday at the same venue, with the kickoff set for 12 pm in the afternoon. This decision has been officially confirmed by the federation, indicating that the match will resume from the 52nd minute, with only 38 minutes of action set to be played.
