After poor start to life in top-flight football following their promotion from the National Super League, Mathare United have bounced back with coach John Kamau eying a longer stay in the FKF Premier League.
Mathare United head coach John Kamau is determined to solidify his team's position in Kenya's FKF Premier League this season.
The tactician has set his sights on ensuring they avoid relegation and maintain their top-flight status.
Having been promoted from the second-tier National Super League at the end of last season, the Slum Boys are gaining momentum after a slow start.
Reflecting on the season so far, Kamau acknowledged the team’s struggles early on but expressed optimism about their recent form.

'It won't be business as usual' - Ambani vows to rectify Leoparads' woeful form against Gor Mahia
AFC Leopards tactician Fred Ambani has vowed to correct woeful head-to-head record against arch rivals Gor Mahia during the Mashemeji derby this month.
"The most important thing for us is that from the word go I think we started very poorly. Now we have gained the pace, so the most important thing is we have an objective – an objective of remaining in the Kenya Premier League next season," Kamau said via Citizen TV.
Mathare United had a challenging beginning, opening their season with a loss against AFC Leopards in August and subsequently failing to win in their next three matches.
However, they have since turned the tide, securing back-to-back victories.
Their latest success came on November 3 with a narrow but crucial 1-0 win over league leaders KCB, showcasing the team’s growing resilience.
Kamau praised his players for their dedication and steady improvement, noting that several players have caught the attention of bigger clubs.
"Some of them may be scouted by the big teams, so if I can see some of my players growing, then personally I'll have achieved an objective," he added.
As it stands, the side is eighth in the league standings with 11 points from eight games, having recorded three wins, two draws, and three losses.
