The former Tusker tactician replaces Kenya Kenyatta who was relieved of his duties after a string of poor performances

Kakamega Homeboyz have appointed Francis Baraza as head coach to replace Ken Kenyatta on a six-month contract.

The former Kenya Police tactician signed the short term deal with the 2022/2023 FKF Cup champions this week, and will be tasked with improving results after Homeboyz poor start to the current season.

Homeboyz have managed a solitary win in six Kenya Premier League matches with two draws and three losses enabling the team to claim five points from a possible 18. The team sits at position 13 in the 18-team league, a result that led to club chairman Cleophas Shimanyula cracking the whip.

“We have handed the coaching mantle to Francis (Baraza), he is an experienced coach whom we believe will revive our fortunes in the league, we had started badly but having him on board will definitely help improve on our results,” Shimanyula told SportsBoom.

"He has signed a six month contract, and if he does well, then we will negotiate for an extension, Baraza is happy working under the short term deal and he will be given a free hand to bring his coaching staff," he added.

Baraza boasts a wealth of experience having previously coached KPL champions Tusker FC, Chemelil Sugar, Western Stima and Sony Sugar.

He has also managed three Tanzanian teams in the form of Biashara United, Kagera Sugar and Dodoma Jiji. The Homeboyz vacant role attracted three other coaches; Nicholas Muyoti, Bernard Mwalala and Tom Juma apart from Baraza if Shimanyula is to be believed.

“Four coaches had applied for the job within the few days we had fired Kenyatta, and apart from Baraza, we had Mwalala who wanted to come back, Muyoti, who wanted to come back and Tom Juma,” explained Shimanyula.
