Gor Mahia head coach Leonardo Neiva has expressed optimism about achieving an unbeaten season, drawing parallels to their 2015 invincible campaign.

Nine years ago, Gor Mahia achieved an incredible milestone by finishing the 2015 season unbeaten under the leadership of Frank Nuttall.

Now, with a flying start to the 2024/25 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League season, the Nairobi-based giants are once again dreaming of replicating that remarkable feat.

New head coach Leonardo Neiva has raised hopes of an "Invincibles" campaign, as the club aims to continue their blistering form.

Gor Mahia kicked off the season in emphatic fashion winning their first two matches without conceding a single goal.

A dominant 4-0 thrashing of newly-promoted Mathare United, followed by a convincing 3-0 win against Posta Rangers, has sparked discussions on whether Neiva's team can replicate the 2015 unbeaten run even though they were held to a goalless draw by KCB on Wednesday.

While Neiva acknowledges the difficulty of such an achievement, he has not ruled it out.

"We have only started the season, we have played two matches and won both, but I know it will not be easy surely (to go unbeaten)," said Neiva as per Flashscore.

"But of course, if we get it, it will be amazing for us and the fans."

This is Neiva’s debut season in charge, having replaced Johnathan McKinstry, and early signs suggest the Brazilian tactician is laying the foundation for a strong title defense.

K'Ogalo's fluidity in attack and solidity at the back have drawn praise, particularly after their comprehensive performances in their opening fixtures.

With seven goals scored and none conceded, K’Ogalo’s confidence is growing, but the coach remains cautious.

"I remember the last time Gor Mahia won the title unbeaten was in 2015 under Frank (Nuttall)," Neiva added.

"I think it is something we can easily achieve, we only need to stay focused and do our work, but we still have a lot of areas that need improvement before we start talking about the season."

The 2015 season under Nuttall is still fresh in the memory of Gor Mahia fans.

That year, the club won 24 of their 30 matches, drawing six, and amassed 78 points, finishing 20 points ahead of second-placed Ulinzi Stars.

With 60 goals scored and only 12 conceded, the team finished with a staggering +48 goal difference.

Neiva knows his side has the potential to mirror those numbers, but insists there’s more work to be done.

"We are working on a lot of things moving forward," Neiva said.

"But we still have so many games to play, it is a long journey, it is a process, step by step we are getting in shape. But the key point is the good combinations and variations that the players are doing."

While K’Ogalo have only played two of their five scheduled matches—due to their involvement in the CAF Champions League—the club’s early dominance has sparked optimism.

Last season, Gor Mahia clinched their 21st league title, finishing with 73 points, but losing three matches along the way.

This time, Neiva hopes his team can go one better and complete the campaign without tasting defeat.

Gor Mahia’s attacking prowess has been key to their fast start as likes of Austin Odhiambo, Shariff Musa, and new signing Gedeon Bendeka have found the net in crucial moments, while the defense, marshalled by veteran Geoffrey Ochieng, has remained rock solid.

For now, though, Neiva remains grounded, aware that talk of an unbeaten season may be premature.

"We still have to improve in a lot of areas before we can talk about going unbeaten," he reiterated.

"But the belief is there, and that is important."
