Kenyan coach Francis Kimanzi parted ways with Tanzanian club Tabora United after just three months in charge.

Kenyan tactician Francis Kimanzi has parted ways with Tanzanian Premier League side Tabora United just three months into his tenure.

The coach, who took over at the end of August, mutually terminated his contract with the club following a string of unsatisfactory results.

Tabora United, in a statement released on Monday, confirmed the decision to part ways with Kimanzi and his assistant, Yusuph Chipo, effective immediately.

The club pointed to the team's underwhelming performance during the ongoing season as the main reason for the split.

“The management of Tabora United FC would like to inform the public that an agreement has been reached between both parties to terminate the contract of the former head coach, Francis Kimanzi, along with his assistant, Yusuph Chipo, effective from today, October 21,” read the official statement, translated from Kiswahili.

“The reason for the termination of this agreement is due to the unsatisfactory performance and results that the team has been experiencing,” the club added.

Kimanzi’s departure comes just months after the veteran coach left his role as head coach of Mathare United in Kenya, where he had built a solid reputation.

The 48-year-old was appointed to guide Tabora United through a challenging season, following the departure of Masoud Juma, who left the team shortly after they survived relegation through the playoffs.

Despite high hopes that Kimanzi's experience could transform the club, Tabora United's performance under his leadership fell short of expectations.

In their first eight matches of the season, the team managed just two victories, two draws, and suffered four defeats.

This poor run of form left them with eight points from eight matches, and a concerning goal difference of -7, having conceded 14 goals while scoring just seven.

Scoring goals proved to be a significant challenge for Tabora United, with the team struggling to convert opportunities and lacking consistency in both attack and defense.

These issues were highlighted by the club as key factors behind the decision to terminate Kimanzi's contract.

"The management would like to thank them for the time they have been with us in their service, and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors outside of Tabora United," the club’s statement concluded, bringing an end to the coach’s short-lived stint in Tanzanian football.

Kimanzi, who is best remembered for leading Mathare United to their first FKF Premier League title in 2008 during his initial stint, also previously managed the Kenyan national team, Harambee Stars, in 2013 and 2019.

He has had spells at top Kenyan clubs, including Tusker FC and Sofapaka, cementing his reputation as one of the most experienced football tacticians in the region.

However, his stint at Tabora United did not deliver the success that both the coach and the club had hoped for.

The pressure to produce quick results in the Tanzanian Premier League proved too much as the team continued to struggle to find consistency.

Despite the challenges, Kimanzi's time in Tanzania will be seen as a learning experience for the seasoned coach, as he looks forward to new opportunities elsewhere.

For Tabora United, the search for a new head coach begins, as they look to stabilize their season and climb up the league table.

Tabora United's fans and management will be hoping that a fresh approach can turn around their fortunes as the club continues to battle in the tough and competitive Tanzanian top flight.
