Why Harambee Stars interim coach Kimanzi believes in a turnaround against Tanzania
Harambee Stars interim coach Francis Kimanzi expresses cautious optimism as his team prepares for a crucial Mapinduzi Cup clash.
Speaking about the changes, Situma said, “I congratulate coach Kimanzi because he said that he will give everyone a chance, and he did that. Everyone feels like they have been given a platform, so they have to impress, and I feel like they are building something.”
The Harambee Stars are currently competing in the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar, fielding a refreshed lineup featuring several new faces.
Among the standout players are Tusker’s in-form forward Ryan Ogam, AFC Leopards’ Kelly Madada, and James Kinyanjui, who scored the opener in Saturday’s opening fixture against Burkina Faso.
Situma emphasized the importance of this shake-up, noting that increased competition within the squad could reignite motivation among veteran players.
“If you look at the squad, they had so many new faces, which means we have competition. There are those who have been on the national team for so long that they have become relaxed, so it is good to have new faces who are doing well to keep them on their toes,” he remarked.
The team, using the tournament as preparation for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), is gearing up for a showdown against Tanzania on Tuesday.
