Football Kenya Federation presidential hopeful Tom Alila has claimed that there is foul play and mischief in the build to the federation's presidential election.

Football Kenya Federation presidential aspirant Tom Alila has expressed a lack of confidence in the fair and successful change of mantle of leadership as the December 7 election edges closer.

The Electoral Board set to oversee the upcoming polls was unveiled on Monday September 23 as it rolled out a roadmap that will lead to the federation's presidential election on December 7.

The board comprises of Hesborn Owilla a sa chairperson, lawyer Marceline Sande as the board's Secretary General, former AFC Leopards chairman Dan Mule, James Waindi and Alfred Ng'ang'a .

Alila has questioned the integrity of the board in the build-up to the election, terming them as 'cronies' of incumbent FKF president Nick Mwendwa.

“First and foremost, the Board members are Nick Mwendwa (FKF president) cronies. Secondly, they are comfortable with a funny arrangement to work from Kandanda House, the very FKF premises – which is a direct conflict of interest. They have also given us a three-month period for the entire electoral process, which should be conducted in six months," Alila told Citizen Digital.

Incumbent Mwendwa has has expressed that he will be on the ballot despite having served two terms, something Alila is heavily opposed to.

“I have reliably learnt that the Board wants to entertain some people who have already served their two terms in the very positions they have been holding. That alone takes away any glimpse of hope that they are independent and capable of delivering credible polls," he explained.

The Cabinet Secretary for Sport Kipchumba Murkomen has, however, reiterated that no aspirant who has already served their second term will be allowed to run for the same office.

The CS appeared before the National Assembly on Wednesday, September 25 where he confirmed that the officials were, however, allowed to run for other offices.

"A letter has been sent to FKF from the Sports Registrar and it is clear that under the Sports Act, no one will run for office for more than two terms," he told the National Assembly

“I believe that if FKF officials who have served for two terms want to run for office, they should run for maybe a different office other than the one they are currently holding,” added Murkomen.

The FKF presidential race has attracted interest from Former Kenyan Premier League CEO Jack Oguda, Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohammed, ex-Gor Mahia star Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino, Gor Mahia secretary general Sam Ochola among others.
