He's finally gone! Chelsea fans react as long-time FLOP gets contract terminated
Chelsea fans have finally waved goodbye to long-serving defender Baba Rahman after just 23 appearances in 8 years for the club.
Why Ghana star collapsed
A PAOK spokesman revealed the alarming incident, stating, "Baba lost consciousness after an aerial clash of heads, and his tongue was also twisted - with the player in real danger," per a report from the Sun.
The Ghanaian left-back, who endured a difficult spell at Chelsea after his £22 million move from German side Augsburg in 2015, faced a frightening ordeal during the match.
Despite Rahman's limited success at Chelsea, where he made only 23 appearances in one season before embarking on a series of loan spells, including stints with Schalke, Reims, Mallorca, and Reading, the 29-year-old has continued his career journey.
Last summer, he made a permanent move to Greek Super League outfit PAOK, hoping for a fresh start.
He faced an unfortunate scare for his life in the incident which occurred during PAOK's Greek Cup semi-final clash against hosts Panathinaikos, a match that ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw on aggregate.
Panathinaikos ultimately prevailed on penalties but Rahman's health scare overshadowed the game's outcome, sparking concerns among fans and teammates alike.
Rahman’s reaction
Following the terrifying ordeal, Rahman reassured well-wishers on social media, thanking them for their support and updating them on his condition.
In a post on X, he expressed gratitude for the outpouring of concern and revealed that scans showed no major damage, providing a sigh of relief to fans around the world.
Despite the challenging night, Rahman maintained a positive outlook, expressing determination to return to the pitch soon.
Tamale-born Rahman has 51 international caps for Ghana and helped PAOK secure the Greek Cup during a loan spell in 2021. This season, he has been a pivotal figure for PAOK, making 18 appearances and netting three goals.
As Rahman continues his recovery journey, the football world unites in support of the talented left-back, hoping for his swift return to the pitch and wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
