I have been a scapegoat for long — Sancho calls out Erik Ten Hag in scathing social media post
England international Jadon Sancho has replied comments from Erik Ten Hag on why he was not in the squad for the trip to Arsenal.
The club's coach, Arteta, still backs his big-money signing, however, and has made an attempt to motivate him using a personal story.
What Arteta said
Arsenal were 3-1 winners today against one of their bitter rivals, Manchester United, but once again, Havertz failed to directly influence the scoresheet.
Speaking after the game, Arteta, acknowledging the forward's slump, revealed the details of what he had said to him on his form.
The Spaniard recalled a story of himself and his wife, Lorena Bernal, telling Havertz of the effort it took for him to woo her.
He told the forward that things could be tough at the beginning but assured that, in the end, they would become easier.
“I said to Havertz: things are hard at the beginning,” Arteta said, per Fabrizio Romano.
“When I met my wife, at the beginning, it was hard to conquer her. It was hard; I had to try and message her, and go, and go.”
