Victor Wanyama's long-awaited debut for Dunfermline Athletic turned into a disaster with a red card, and while Neil Lennon defended his star, former referee Keith Hackett insists the call was clear.
Victor Wanyama’s red card on his debut at Dunfermline Athletic sent shockwaves to the world of football but former referee and ex-PGMOL chief Keith Hackett believes the former Harambee Stars player deserved it and there was no need of an appeal.
Victor Wanyama ended his contract at CF Montreal in January this year and was surprisingly unveiled as a new signing at Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic alongside his former coach at Celtic Neil Lennon.
Just days after his unveiling, Victor Wanyama made his debut for the club in their match against Ayr, which is coached by his former teammate at Celtic, Scott Brown.

'I play for him'- Ronney Onyango out to make his late father proud after being unveiled by Norwegian club
Ronney Onyango has officially joined Sogndal Fotball with the aim of honouring his late father.
However, less than 20 minutes into the match, Victor Wanyama was handed a red card that sent him off the pitch.
Wanyama received the ball outside his own penalty area but sadly lost his footing and threw his hand to push the ball leading to the red card. Ayr won the match 3-0 to completely humiliate Dunfermline who are on course to avoid relegation.
Speaking to Football Insider, Keith Hackett noted that there was no need for complaints since Victor Wanyama was on the wrong and deserved the red card.

Former Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry unleashes scathing criticism of local Kenyan players
Johnathan McKinstry has unleashed a scathing criticism of local Kenyan players in regards to securing moves abroad compared to their West African counterparts.
“No, absolutely not! He’s handled outside the area… If he hadn’t handled the ball, the player would have had a shot on goal: red card, denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Welcome to the Scottish leagues! One to forget for him!” Keith Hackett.
Neil Lennon defends Victor Wanyama

After the match against Ayr, Dunfermline manager Neil Lennon jumped to Victor Wanyama’s defence, highlighting that the red card was uncalled for since the former Tottenham Hotspur star had not played for a while.
Neil Lennon expressed his dissatisfaction with the referee, citing that there was some favouritism from their opponents.
“He slipped, and his initial reaction was to reach out for the ball. But I thought we had a covering player. I didn’t think their guy would have been clean through. Listen, I’m not happy with the referee,” he said.

Top 7 African Countries With the Most Olympic Medals
African countries have often stolen the spotlight on the world's grandest stage, accruing multiple Olympic medals, but which ones are the most decorated?
“I got booked today for apparently contesting a decision where my player was flattened, yet the opponent who argued with the referee didn’t even get a card. A very, very strange performance from him. Like I said, I felt we definitely should have had a penalty in the first half.”
Victor Wanyama now faces a three-match suspension following the red card and Neil Lennon sympathised with him. He admitted that it was a risk, getting him on the pitch just days after his unveiling.
He added that they will focus on conditioning work and training to ensure the same does not repeat when he is ready to get back on the pitch.
Dunfermline Athletic are now eighth on the Scottish Championship table with 30 points, just one ahead of ninth-placed Hamilton. This was achieved after their win over Livingstone.
