2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner Sunday Mba, has expressed support for the appointment of Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Nigerian national team.

The former Super Eagles midfielder played a crucial role in Nigeria's third AFCON victory in 2013, as he scored the winning goal against Burkina Faso in the final.

Since the announcement, some fans and pundits have criticised the decision of the nation's football federation over the appointment of the former Bayer Leverkusen coach.

Despite the criticism regarding the NFF's choice, Mba believes it's important to give Labbadia a chance to prove himself as he emphasises the need for unity and support for the new coach.

"I can't say it's a bad idea because I think we are all working together for the betterment of our national team, and to restore us to our golden days. Now let's see what different things this new coach can bring us" Mba told Brila FM

Pulse Sports reported that Bruno Labbadia might not be in the dugout for the Super Eagles in their upcoming games in September.

Despite announcing Labbadia's appointment on Tuesday, the NFF has yet to finalise a formal contract with the German tactician according to report.

If the contract agreement is not signed early, the German tactician could miss the two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic on Saturday, September 7th, in Uyo and Rwanda on Tuesday, September 10th, in Kigali.
