Mariga, who is contesting as running mate to FKF presidential aspirant Hussein Mohammed, wants to priotitise the return of fans into stadiums in Kenya.

Former Harambee Stars midfielder McDonald Mariga wants to prioritize the return of fans to stadiums if elected into Football Kenya Federation (FKF) leadership alongside presidential aspirant Hussein Mohammed.

Speaking during a meeting with football stakeholders in Migori town, Mariga stressed the importance of engaging fans and professionalising the FKF Premier League (FKF PL) to restore enthusiasm and support for local football.

“We have to popularise our league and run it more professionally because we need more fans, especially in the Kenyan Premier League,” Mariga stated via KTN News.

“I think if we make our league transparent and run it more professionally, then we can bring back the fans," added

Mariga’s comments come ahead of the FKF elections set for December 7, where he and Mohammed will compete against several other presidential candidates.

The former Kenya international emphasised that a professional and well-managed league is crucial in building trust with fans, whose absence in stadiums has been a growing concern in recent years.

Mariga assures that his campaign, together with Mohammed, aims to create a football environment that excites supporters and makes them feel connected to the sport once again.

With elections looming, Mariga and Mohammed are focused on garnering support across the country, vowing to revamp local football and ensure fans are placed at the center of Kenya’s football resurgence.

The December elections have so confirmed the participation of ex-Gor Mahia player Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino, Tom Alila, the former FKF NEC member for Nyanza, Kakamega Homeboyz boss Cleophas Shimanyula, Gor Mahia secretary general Sam Ochola, ex-FKF boss Sam Nyamweya with incumbent Nick Mwendwa as running mate to Doris Petra among others.
