Bruno leading Man United’s charge

Ruben Amorim has not managed to drum his ideas effectively into the team since he took over earlier in the season. And as such, they find themselves 14th on the log, on course for a historically poor finish.

However, their captain, Bruno Fernandes, remains a bright spark in an otherwise gloomy reality. He leads the dressing room in goals (7) and assists (7) and during the clash against rivals Arsenal, he was the main driving force behind nearly beating the Gunners.

Against the run of play, the former Sporting CP midfielder beat Arsenal's wall and goalkeeper to give the Red Devils the lead on the stroke of half time. And after Declan Rice’s 71st-minute equaliser, Bruno led a late flurry of Manchester United attacks that almost resulted in victory.

What Amorim said

Following the game, the former Casa Pia coach was pleased with the performance of his captain and compatriot, urging the rest of the squad to emulate him.

"I will say we need more Brunos," Amorim said. "The character he has, the availability is so important and he is so decisive with and without the ball."

Meanwhile, Manchester United adopted a defensive approach in the match against Arsenal. While Amorim understands that fans of the club would have preferred a more expansive style, he explained that it was necessary, citing Arsenal's 7-1 blitz of PSV with the Dutch club opting for a man-to-man press.
