Nigeria fell to a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat on Wednesday, despite dominating possession of the ball, and attempting 27 shots.

Golden Eaglets head coach Nduka Ugbade has said that the National under-17 side will give their all in future matches at the 2023 African U-17 Cup of Nations.

Nigeria fell to a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat on Wednesday, despite dominating possession of the ball, including possessing a staggering 27 shots - although only four were on target.

Golden Eaglets to be more efficient, Ugbade promises

The victory means that the Golden Eaglets sit in second place in the Group, behind Morocco who have secured passage to the knockout stage.

With Nigeria's next group game against third-placed South Africa, Ugbade has assured that the team will more efficient with the chances they create.

“We must be more efficient with the chances we have," Ugbade in after Wednesday's defeat. "We will try to look for some different ways tactically to impact the outcome of the game. We have a chance, but also, that chance can fade away. We have to work hard.

“It does happen in football. It is not a strange thing, but it is important to correct and ensure we are more efficient in front of goal.”

Golden Eaglets to play South Africa on Saturday

Nigeria must now defeat South Africa in their last group encounter in order to guarantee a spot in the quarterfinals.

Should they lose to South Africa, the Golden Eaglets could still manage to qualify as one of the two best losers, only if Zambia defeats Morocco by a large margin.

The quarterfinals are expected to produce the four teams to represent Africa at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
