AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani has given reasons why he feels Ingwe can end their 27-year wait for a league title this season.
AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani believes his squad has the capability to end the club’s near three decade wait for a league title.
Leopards last won the Kenyan Premier League crown in 1998 and have watched rivals like Gor Mahia and Tusker amass a number of titles since then while they have barely put on a serious challenge.
However, amid the indifferent forms of various teams this season, Ambani feels Leopards should also be counted among the title contenders, having finished 2024 in fifth place, five points behind leaders KCB.

How AFC Leopards wonderkid Kelly Madada's desire to uplift family is motivating him to do well for Harambee Stars
Kelly Madada made the final 24-man Harambee Stars squad for the Mapinduzi Cup, which is serving as a platform to help Francis Kimanzi identify the squad for the 2024 CHAN tournament.
“We have a very good squad with a good balance of experienced and young players. The majority of the players are young and hungry and want to show that they can do it,” Ambani, who replaced Tomas Trucha in December, told Telecomasia.net.
“Some were not even born when Leopards last won the trophy but if you look at them on the pitch, they are quite eager to make things right for the club.
“I believe we have the right ingredients for the league but we must keep working and keep improving in each game.”

Gor Mahia set to lose key defender to Tanzanian moneybags Singida Black Stars
The defender has agreed to join the big-spending Singida Black Stars where he will link up with Kenyan colleagues Elvis Rupia and Joash Onyango.
Ingwe have put on a five-match unbeaten run since the start of December, winning three while recording two draws, which have moved them to 22 points from 14 matches, five behind KCB, who have played a match more.
There have been statement wins over that period, which are perhaps giving Ambani hope, having thrashed second-placed Tusker FC 4-1, beaten Bandari 2-0 as well as a 1-0 victory over Kenya Police.
However, their next match will test their title credentials as they visit table toppers KCB on January 10 and maximum points will give belief to the players and fans that a first league title in 27 years could arrive in June.
