Junior Starlets bowed out of the U-17 Women's World Cup in style by beating Mexico 1-0, with the players then celebrating by dancing to the popular hit song 'Anguka nayo'

FIFA’s official women’s football TikTok account added a humorous touch to Kenya’s Junior Starlets’ 2-1 triumph over Mexico, featuring their celebratory dance to the popular Kenyan song Anguka Nayo.

The match, held Wednesday morning in the Dominican Republic, marked the team’s final group-stage game in the U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The Starlets got off to a strong start, with Valerie Nekesa netting the opening goal in the 15th minute, completing a smooth setup from Joan Ogola.

Just 21 minutes later, Nekesa turned playmaker again, assisting Lornah Faith, who doubled Kenya’s lead with a clinical finish. By halftime, the Starlets were up 2-0, displaying their determination on the world stage.

Mexico came out fighting in the second half and managed to pull one back in the 90th minute through a penalty converted by Alexa Soto. Despite this late surge, Kenya’s defense held firm, ensuring their first win in the tournament.

After Faith netted the second goal, the Starlets celebrated with a dance, which FIFA’s TikTok paired with Anguka Nayo, adding a local flair to the moment.

Lornah Faith’s remarkable performance earned her the Player of the Match title, capping a memorable day for the team.

This victory not only secured a third-place finish in Group C for Kenya but also boosted their confidence as they prepare to return home on Friday, October 25, 2024. The Junior Starlets hope that the experience gained will fuel even stronger performances in the future.
