Nigerian forward Gift Orban scored a stunning winning goal for Gent against Anderlecht
Nigeria forward Gift Orban scored his third goal in four league appearances since his January move to Gent with a superb finish against Anderlecht in the Belgian Pro League.
Orban scores another beauty for Gent against Anderlecht
Orban joined Gent on the deadline day of the winter transfer window and has been a revelation for Gent, scoring brilliant goals and improving his reputation in almost every game.
Against Anderlecht, Orban scored the only goal of the game, giving Gent a 1-0 win with a superb effort from the edge of the area.
Just before the hour mark, Orban beat his marker with a feint and then rifled a shot into the top corner beyond Bart Verbruggen in the Anderlecht goal to give his team the lead.
Orban enjoying start to life in Belgium
The goal against Anderlecht was Orban’s third in the Belgian Pro League and his fourth in all competitions for Gent.
Orban also scored twice against KSV Westerlo on his debut for Gent in the league and scored a crucial winning goal against Qarabag in the UEFA Conference League round of 16 playoffs.
The 20-year-old Nigerian forward is enjoying his start to life in Belgium, and if he continues at this pace, he could add to the growing ‘headache’ of forward choices for Super Eagles’ coach Jose Peseiro.
Despite his impressive form and growing reputation, Orban has not been called up to the Super Eagles or indeed any of Nigeria’s other national teams across age cadres.
