Charles De Ketelaere netted a controversial first goal after 12 minutes but Alvaro Morata levelled proceedings following a flowing move.
It stayed that way until Lookman's 87th-minute header secured the win in Bergamo to take La Dea top of Serie A after their ninth consecutive league victory.
Lookman’s game-winners
Friday’s goal took Lookman to eight Serie A goals in 12 appearances (11 starts), trailing teammate Mateo Retegui (12), Marcus Thuram (10) and Moise Kean (9).
However, the Nigerian has tied Andrea Pinamonti, Mattia Zaccagni, Lautaro Martinez, Romelu Lukaku and Giovanni Di Lorenzo on three match-winning goals.
His first was a solo effort in the round four turnaround against Fiorentina (3-2), and has followed that with match-clinching efforts against Napoli (3-0) and Milan (2-1).
