Mexico win also meant that the Super Falcons had now lost their fourth consecutive game in international friendlies, since September 2022
Following Nigeria's 1-0 loss to Mexico in their Revelations Cup opener, Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has called the defeat a learning process, adding that his side will look to do better.
Mexico earned all three points on Wednesday in Leon thanks to an 85th-minute goal from Club America's Kiana Palacios.
Mexico win also meant that the Super Falcons had now lost their fourth consecutive game in international friendlies.
It’s a learning process for us - Waldrum
Reacting to the outcome of the match, Waldrum who had earlier called the four-nation tournament a platform to prepare for the World Cup, stated that losing to Mexico was only going to help his side improve.
“It’s a learning process for us. It was an opportunity to try new things. New ideas and new tactics,” Waldrum said after the game.
“We started the game strongly though they dominated the last 20 minutes of the first half.
“It’s always disappointing when you concede late in any game. We will learn from this defeat and prepare for our next game."
For Nigeria, the one-week invitational tournament serves as a part of the Super Falcons' preparations for the 2023 Women's World Cup campaign in July.
Super Falcons to play Colombia on Saturday
The other game on Wednesday saw fellow invitees Colombia and Costa Rica, play out a 1-1 draw about three hours to Nigeria's unfortunate loss to Mexico.
The competition will enter its second stage on Saturday with Super Falcons scheduled to take on Colombia, while Mexico will pair up with Costa Rica.
Nigeria's game with Colombia on Saturday will kick off at 1 pm (8 pm Nigerian time).
