Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has opened up about his uncertain future at Anfield, confirming that discussions regarding a contract extension are ongoing as he approaches the final months of his current deal.

The Dutch defender, who is out of contract next summer alongside notable teammates Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, remains focused on leading Liverpool as they aim for success in the Premier League and beyond.

According to Mail sport van Dijk expressed his commitment to the club, stating, “Discussions are ongoing with the right people, and when it’s time to make a decision, everyone will know.”

He emphasized that while he has no clear vision of where his career will head, his immediate focus is solely on Liverpool’s performance on the pitch.

The 33-year-old has played a crucial role in Liverpool’s strong start to the season under new manager Arne Slot, who has implemented a robust defensive strategy that has seen the team concede only three goals in their first eight league matches.

Van Dijk credited Slot’s emphasis on solidifying the defense as a key factor in their impressive form, noting, “If you are defensively solid and you're not conceding many goals, I think that is always a good way to success.”

Reflecting on the team's defensive improvements, van Dijk highlighted the importance of collective effort: “It’s not just the last line and the goalkeepers making a difference; it’s about everyone in the team.”

He praised teammates like Darwin Núñez for their contributions, indicating that the entire squad is committed to defending as a unit.

As Liverpool sits atop the Premier League table following a 2-1 victory over Chelsea, van Dijk is eager to build on their success.

“I want to win trophies in every competition we're in,” he stated, expressing ambition for the upcoming matches, including a challenging Champions League encounter against RB Leipzig and a key Premier League clash against Arsenal.

Despite the looming uncertainty regarding his contract, van Dijk remains optimistic, maintaining that he feels “very good, physically and mentally.”

He reiterated his dedication to Liverpool, emphasizing that his full commitment is to achieving success this season.
