Defending champions Vipers, SC played out a pulsating Uganda Premier League 1-1 stalemate with URA FC at the St Mary's Stadium, Kitende, on Saturday.

Under the floodlights, the stadium bounced with absolute noise, with the home team's crowd cheering every touch from their team.

URA opened the scoring in the 13th minute through a thunderous shot from Patrick Paul Mbowa that took a huge deflection to beat Fabien Mutombora.

The hosts then equalised through a Karim Ndugwa shot, having capitalised on a mistake by goalkeeper and captain Nafian Alionzi.

Vipers almost grabbed a second in the 37th minute, but Abubakar Lawal's headed effort from an Ashraf Mandela cross sailed inches wide.

In the second stanza, URA started the brighter side, and their pressure nearly paid off, but Joshua Lubwama's freekick sailed wide.

The hosts also had a good chance in the 74th minute, only for Frank 'Zaga' Tumwesigye's shot from a distance to miss the target.

Following the result, Vipers stayed put in third with 36 points and will return to action on Wednesday against Arua Hill.

Meanwhile, URA has also stayed fourth with 34 points and won't be in action till Saturday against Gaddafi FC at Mehta Stadium, Lugazi.
