The forward has not only become the first player from the country to sign at Vipers, but also for any other Ugandan club.

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have completed the signing of Mauritanian national, Mohamed Salem Ekbad.

The forward has not only become the first player from the country to sign at Vipers, but also for any other Ugandan club.

Ekbad, 25, has penned down a two-year employment contract with the Kitende outfit.

His most recent exploits were with Mauritania League 1 side, FC Nouadhibou where he traded for the past two seasons, winning the League in each.

He departed after scoring 17 times for the country's giants across two league campaigns, including 11 in the most recent campaign.

Before Nouadhibou, Ekbad had played for FC Sahel in the 2018/19 season as he helped them qualify to the first division as champions, netting 12 goals.

He then struck eight times in Sahel's first season in the topflight, before adding 13 goals in the campaign that followed for the team.

Ekbad this leaves Mauritania after amassing 50 goals across five seasons with FC Sahel and Nouadhibou.

This year, he featured for the latter in the World Arab Club Champions Cup qualification, before falling to Al Kuwait, courtesy of a 2-0 aggregate.

He is now Vipers' seventh signing after Rodriguez, Luiz Otavio alias Tinga, Richard Matovu, David Bagoole, Grant Matsiko and then Paul Patrick Mbowa.

A starting berth at Vipers however, won't be easy as the boasts the likes of Karim Ndugwa, Cromwell Rwothomio, Yunus Sentamu, Desire Tety, Yunus Sentamu, Milton Karisa, Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez and Abubakar Lawal.
