Liverpool were at their ruthless best as they brushed aside the challenge of Leeds.

Liverpool showed their devastating offensive prowess that had been missing for huge chunks of the season in the match against Leeds, thumping them 6-1.

The Reds' poor away form this season was inconsequential in this game at Elland Road where they made their visitors pay for shambolic defending.

How it happened

It has been a brilliant last 140 minutes of football for Jurgen Klopp's side starting from the last five minutes of the first-half against Arsenal, vintage Liverpool.

Trent Alexander Arnold had an impeccable game tucking into the midfield, and he registered his first of two assists in the game in the 35th minute of the game for the first goal which Cody Gakpo finished brilliantly.

Mohammed Salah made it two only five minutes after finishing off a brilliant team move helping Liverpool head into the break with a healthy advantage.

It all looked to be going awry in the second half, however, when Luis Sinisterra pounced on a mistake by Konate at the start of the second-half, sending a wave of nostalgia down the spine of the Liverpool faithful.

However, a sweeping counter-attacking move finished off by Jota five minutes later allayed fears, and Liverpool regained their two-goal advantage and consequently dominance of proceedings.

Liverpool smelled blood, and like the game against Manchester United, they showed that on their day they are still one of the most dominant teams on offence in the world as Salah made it four in the 64th minute on a Gakpo assist.

Jota grabbed his second of the day in the 73rd minute, finding the bottom left corner expertly from a low cross by Jordan Henderson. It will not be the end of goalscoring on the day, however, as substitute Darwin Nunez made sure to make his mark.

Arnold dropped a beautiful lobbed pass behind the Leeds backline which the Uruguayan striker ran onto brilliantly, beating the offside trap brilliantly to finish past Illan Meslier.

The win keeps Liverpool's top-four hopes alive, while Leeds United remain stuck in the battle against relegation.
