Vinicius Junior has been left with sad and disgusting memories of Brazil's anti-racism campaign friendly against Guinea after his best friend was allegedly racially abused at the Stadium before the friendly fixture
Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has found himself embroiled in another racism scandal against his will after his best friend was abused before Brazil’s anti-racism campaign match against Guinea.
Vinicius' best friend suffers racial abuse at Brazil friendly
Brazil played against Guinea as part of their anti-racism efforts following abuse levelled against Vinicius himself in the past, but even while the game was going on, another distasteful incident involving the Real Madrid star took place.
The incident reportedly occurred as the Brazilian’s entourage arrived for the game against Guinea at Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium when Vinicius’ best friend Felipe Silva was allegedly held up by one of the security forces, who pointed a banana at the Brazilian and said, “Hands up, this pistol is for you.”
Although the incident has been denied by the security company that provided the security personnel on duty that day, the Real Madrid winger remains incensed over the issue and has asked for a chance to review the security tapes from the incident at the stadium.
Vinicius saddened by yet another racially charged incident
Vinicius tweeted about the incident, decrying the situation as sad and noting that his friends who were harassed were still in disbelief over the abuse that they received.
Vinicius asked that the security camera footage be made available to the public to scrutinise the disgusting backstage incident.
He said, “While I was playing with the already historic black shirt and getting emotional, my friend was humiliated and mocked at the entrance to the stadium.
“The treatment was sad, at all times they doubted the surreal scene that happened. Backstage is disgusting. But to make everything public, I ask those responsible: where is the security camera footage?”
Brazil won the anti-racism match against Guinea 4-1 but the incident was a stark reminder that the battle against racial abuse is far from being won.
