At Lille, Enyeama cemented his place as one of the world's best goalkeepers. During his time in France, Enyeama returned on loan to Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he enjoyed another successful stint, winning another Israeli Premier League title in 2014. However, his final years at Lille were marred by a dispute with the club's management, ultimately leading to his departure in 2018 after seven years with the French side.

While Enyeama expressed his desire to continue playing, a trial with French club Dijon in 2019 was not successful. After a season without a club, he finally announced his retirement in 2020.

Enyeama's national team journey began in 2002 when he was selected as a backup for the World Cup. Enyeama's presence was a constant source of stability for Nigeria. He was instrumental in their consistent podium finishes at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) – three third-place finishes (2004, 2006, 2010) before leading the team to glory in 2013 as captain. His heroics throughout the tournament helped the team and he was named to the team of the tournament as first choice goalkeeper, conceding only four goals in six matches.

Beyond trophies, Enyeama's individual accolades spoke volumes. He held the record for most appearances for Nigeria (since surpassed by Ahmed Musa in 2021) and was named in the Africa Cup of Nations Team of the Tournament twice in 2004 and 2013.

Enyeama's international career was not without its controversies. A public fallout with the national team coach in 2015 led to his abrupt retirement from international football. Despite the unresolved friction, his impact on Nigerian football remains undeniable.
