Despite Victor Wanyama's early red card, his former teammate and Ayr manager Scott Brown praised Dunfermline's performance.

Victor Wanyama’s debut for Dunfermline Athletic was met with an unexpected turn as he was handed a red card by referee Iain Snedden just less than 20 minutes into the match.

Victor Wanyama entered the match in the 64th minute with the hope of salvaging his team as they were already down 2-0 to Ayr. However, his efforts bore no fruit as he was red-carded for a handball and his side went on to lose 3-0.

Reacting to their match against Dunfermline Athletic, manager Scott Brown, who also played with Victor Wanyama at Celtic, noted that they are a good side and they had to fight to get the three goals in.

He explained that the players were tired of losing their matches and saw a chance of redemption against Dunfermline Athletic and took it by the horns, hence the dominant display.

However, the match was not a walk in the park as he also singled out two wingbacks from Dunfermline who were exceptional.

“Dunfermline was always going to be a hard game and every time we played against them it was always hard,” Scott Brown shared in a post-match interview.

“For us, it was important that once we controlled the game and once we were in possession, the movements became seamless.

“I’m delighted for them as well because I talked about their two wingbacks earlier on and I thought they were outstanding throughout the game.”

He also lauded his players for showing up and owning the game just as they had discussed before the highly-anticipated match.

Scott Brown pointed out that they handled the game maturely and were able to control every aspect of the match, something that worked out in their favour.

He admitted that in the past few matches that they lost, they made costly mistakes that derailed them but were not ready to make the same mistake.

“Overall, we were really good in the game, we were solid at the back and we made the right decisions at the right time, when to play, when to build and when to go on behind,” Scott Brown said.

“The work they have put in has been brilliant and some wrong decisions cost us in the last few games but as I keep saying, it’s been a fantastic season.

“Everybody wants to be doom and gloom in the last couple of games but the lads have been unbelievable and the resilience and comeback into this game to prove a point.”

With the win, Ayr have now climbed to second on the championship table, having accumulated 58 points. Dunfermline continues to struggle in ninth place with 27 points.
