The former Harambee Stars captain played all 90 minutes but he could not prevent his side from another MLS defeat.

Victor Wanyama was on the end of yet another defeat as CF Montreal lost 3-0 away to Chicago Fire on Thursday morning.

Captain Wanyama played all 90 minutes for Montreal as they started in a 3-4-2-1 formation but could not prevent his side from losing their third straight match.

Chicago were out of sight after 33 minutes when they took a 3-0 lead courtesy of goals from Brian Gutierrez, Maren Haile-Selassie, and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Montreal had suffered identical 1-0 defeats to Atlanta United and New York City FC prior to Thursday's encounter but their hopes of stopping the slide went up in smoke.

Wanyama had blamed poor finishing for his side’s loss to Atlanta but there were no excuses this time as Montreal were truly beaten and failed to throw a return punch.

The former Harambee Stars captain was among the players with the lowest ratings as he was restricted to defensive duties, failing to attempt a shot in the entire contest.

Chicago came into the match knowing a win over Montréal would put them squarely in postseason contention and they did not disappoint.

The win saw the Fire jump to ninth place in the Eastern Conference, putting them in contention for an MLS playoff spot.

A little over a month ago, it looked like the Fire were dead and buried, lounging near the bottom of the table and having recently fired their manager.

Now, they are very much in the conversation to make the MLS Playoffs with some reinforcements on the horizon.

Montreal, meanwhile, slipped to 10th on the Eastern Conference table with 26 points from 22 matches and will need a great run of form to return to contention for a playoff spot.
