Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has risked the wrath of Gor Mahia supporters following his rallying call to AFC Leopards ahead of the Mashemeji derby.
Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has stocked up the fires ahead of this weekend’s Mashemeji derby clash between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.
Gor Mahia will host AFC Leopards at the Nyayo Stadium on Sunday April 21, seeking to complete a double over their eternal rivals following their 2-0 win in the first leg, but Ingwe fans are hoping that lightning will not strike twice.
Among those rooting for a Leopards win is Wanyama, who played for the club in the formative years of his career, before moving abroad.

Mashemeji derby: Two Gor Mahia legends who inflicted more pain on AFC Leopards
Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards will clash in the Mashemeji derby on Sunday but the fixture will bring back memories of two K’Ogalo players who were a thorn in the flash for Ingwe.
“This weekend’s plan is a top game, a derby, one of the biggest derbies in Africa in AFC Leopards vs Gor Mahia,” said Wanyama.
“Let us turn out in large numbers to support our teams. As always here, Ingwe do something. Beat them, let’s go AFC [Leopards].”
Wanyama rarely hides his love for Ingwe who he played for between 2006 and 2007 before switching to Swedish side Helsingborg, after which he had successful stints at Beerschot in Belgium, Scottish giants Celtic, Premier League sides Southampton and Tottenham and now CF Montreal in the MLS.
Leopards will be drawing encouragement from last season when they drew 0-0 in the first leg before triumphing 2-1 in the return fixture.
Ingwe have greatly improved since their loss in September, tasting one defeat in 12 matches in 2024 which gives coach Tomas Trucha and his charges hope of a positive outcome.
K’Ogalo are, however, counting on their formidable record and a good run in the FKF Premier League which has seen them open a nine-point gap at the top of the table and 16 ahead of eighth-placed Leopards.
