Wanyama would have been hoping the absence of two Canadian internationals would have given him a chance to stake his claim, but he was not even included in the squad during the defeat.
Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama was completely left out of the squad as Montreal suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Colorado Rapids in a Major League Soccer (MLS) match on Sunday morning.
Wanyama, who has turned into a bit-part player for Montreal since the middle of last season, has struggled for game time and has had to contend with bench roles.
Canadian midfielders Mathieu Choiniere, Samuel Piette, and Nathan Saliba have all surged ahead of Wanyama in the pecking order, relegating him to late substitute roles or sometimes excluding him from the squad entirely.
The former Tottenham Hotspur player has featured in just nine of Montreal’s 18 league games this season, starting only two.

Michael Olunga reveals one factor that has kept him going any time he gets abuse over his performances
Olunga has revealed the importance of staying mentally strong in adverse moments, revealing how he deals with abuse, including during his time playing for La Liga outfit Girona when he was subjected to racism.
His only other start came in a cup game, underscoring how peripheral he has become even after coach Laurent Courtois, who replaced Hernan Losada before the start of this campaign, promised him a change of fortunes.
Despite the absence of Choiniere and Piette on Saturday, Wanyama was still left out of the squad completely.
The match saw Calvin Harris put Colorado into the lead with a great header in the 28th minute before adding another goal in the 45th minute. Montreal pulled one back thanks to an unfortunate own goal by Lalas Abubakar.

A Montreal handball in the box in the 87th minute gave Colorado another golden opportunity to score, with Dorde Mihailovic stepping up to convert the penalty, putting the Rapids up 3-1.
The Rapids struck again just two minutes later to secure a three-match win streak. Mihailovic led the play down the right wing and found midfielder Cole Bassett, who passed up a shot for an extra pass to Rafael Navarro, finishing the move to put the Rapids up 4-1.
With this victory, Colorado has now scored 38 goals in MLS this season, which positions them second in the Western Conference and third across the entire league with 31 points. Meanwhile, Montreal remains 14th in the Eastern Conference with 19 points.
