Enrico Varriale, an Italian journalist, has disclosed the cause of Napoli's inability to sell star striker Victor Osimhen during the current transfer season.

Osimhen have been the subject of transfer speculation since the start of the summer transfer window.

However, Napoli have been unable to get a buyer for the Super Eagles star as many top teams are unwilling to pay his release clause.

The forward has already informed Napoli that he wants to leave before the transfer window closes and was left off of Antonio Conte's team's preseason schedule and Coppa Italia match.

Why Napoli struggle to sell Osimhen

Premier League and Ligue 1 are two elite leagues that Enrico said were having financial problems, which has affected Osimhen’s transfer.

Varriale said on Radio Kiss Kiss, via Siamo Il Napoli, "Napoli is having some problems with the Osimhen affair, I thought it was guaranteed by the clause and that maybe there was already a team ready to pay it.

"The real problem is not that Osimhen has played a season below par, but that some big leagues are in financial difficulty.

"Prices have dropped, while last year PSG spent 90 for Kolo Muani and 80 for Ramos. The real problem is that there is less money in circulation.

"We know that Napoli needs to sell Osimhen and the market is slow. Juventus' situation with Chiesa is similar to that of Osimhen,

"I wouldn't be surprised if the Nigerian stays. Market contingencies should not be underestimated by anyone, even in England some warning lights are going off, you can't always spend endlessly."

One week before the Serie A season commences, Osimhen remains at Napoli since none of his potential suitors are willing to activate his substantial 130 million euro release clause.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked to the AFCON 2023 finalist, but no club-to-club agreement has been reached.
