Nigeria's Victor Boniface is back in training with his Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen - and he's got the scars to prove it.

The Super Eagles star took to social media to share pictures from his latest training sessions, revealing shocking scars from his surgery last season.

Victor Boniface back with Leverkusen

In a bitter twist of fate for both Leverkusen and the Nigerian national team, the 23-year-old forward was forced to go under the knife following a severe muscle tendon injury back in January.

The devastating blow came just as the Super Eagles were preparing for their journey in the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The muscle tendon tear in the right adductor area occurred during a training session in Dubai and immediately forced Boniface's departure from the Nigerian camp, sending him back to his club in Germany for urgent medical attention.

He would go on to miss four months before making it back for the club's final run-in matches of the season as they went on to make Bundesliga history in his debut campaign.

Boniface, who scored 21 goals and provided nine assists last season, has now returned to Leverkusen ahead of the new campaign.

And in his latest training pictures, the horrible scar from that surgery could be seen on his knee.

JUDE BOUNCES BACK

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles star has also been offering words of encouragement to another young talent - England's Jude Bellingham.

The Real Madrid midfielder, who is only 21, shared his reflections on the Three Lions' defeat against Spain in the 2024 European Championship final, thanking former manager Gareth Southgate for "great memories".

The heartbreaking loss made England the first team to lose two straight finals in the competition.

But Boniface was quick to offer support to Bellingham, commenting on his post: "Head up bro."

The Leverkusen star will be hoping to put his injury woes behind him as he looks to spearhead Leverkusen’s title defence and fire Nigeria to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
