The former Sofapaka and Tusker FC player has revealed just how much Kenyan Premier League players make in match bonuses for goal scoring and assisting.

Former Kenya Premier League (KPL) player James Situma has revealed the cash problems he faced while he was still active.

Situma represented household names in Kenya such as Sofapaka, AFC Leopards, Mathare United and Tusker FC.

During his illustrious career, the former KPL winner with Sofapaka also donned the national team kit for the Harambee Stars.

With his big reputtaion, Situma attracted interest from big clubs and in turn big cheques.

"The beauty with Tusker is that there was no issue with salary. You could never miss your salary. Around date 18 or 20 of the month you already have your salary," said Situma via the Tiki Taka Show podcast when questioned on his signing fee and salary with Tusker.

"Especially for December. You could get paid on November 18 then December 12 another salary. When Christmas reaches you don't even have money anymore," he humorously recalled.

Situma further revealed the many privileges Tusker players enjoyed during his time with the Brewers.

"Allowances were also good but I don't know about now. I'm hearing it went down. We used to get Ksh8,000 for wins and another Ksh2,000 for transport. In a month you have like about Kshs 24,000 on top of your salary"

"We had even insurance cover that covered family members as well," revealed Situma.

Situma further recounted when he made Ksh20,000 from just one match during his time with Mathare United.

"Mathare (United) has the best structure I can think off in this country. It's just that maybe sometimes they have sponsorship issues. For example, we used to get game bonuses of about Ksh13,000 for away games and Ksh11,000 for home games."

"If you got an assist or a goal you also had your Ksh3,000 so if you got a brace you could take home Ksh20,000 from just one game," he added.

The KPL veteran now looks after the welfare of footballers in Kenya as Kenya Footballers Welfare Association president.
