Junior Starlets striker Lorna Faith Wasike made history by becoming the first Kenyan footballer to win a global award after being named Player of the Match against Mexico at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
Wasike crowned her performance in the Dominican Republic by scoring Kenya's first-ever goal in the dead-rubber by hitting the target in the 35th minute as the Junior Starlets prevailed 2-1 to return to winning ways on October 24.

Junior Starlets make history with victory over Mexico at Women's U17 World Cup
Kenya's Junior Starlets exited the Women's U17 World Cup in historic fashion after securing their first win following a 2-1 victory against Mexico.
The Junior Starlets had lost to both England and North Korea, and the Mexico win was a bragging rights encounter. Wasike has been a star performer at the international level having scored two goals in Kenya's crucial determining qualifier double-header match against Ethiopia in May.
The promising attacker, who is a student at Butere Girls in Western Kenya, has been tipped to make the grade with Harambee Starlets as soon as possible. Addressing the media after the victory, she said: "We thank God for the far he has brought us. I also thank God for this MVP award. We were psyched up and we told ourselves before the match that we will give our best and make the country proud."

Junior Starlets take on Mexico in their final group C fixture, looking to end their historic world cup debut with their first win of the tournament.
"The Award serves as a motivation to me to continue working hard. I would like to thank Kenyans for their support throughout this course," she added.
Perhaps it is a matter of time before foreign clubs start queueing for her signature when she turns 18. When quizzed regarding how the World Cup experience has bee, she said: "We have gained valuable experience as a team. The exposure has also allowed us to showcase our talent."
