Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro reveals he already knows who will be Nigeria's starting goalkeeper for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
With just four days to the start of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, there is still a considerable amount of uncertainty surrounding the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The biggest one of which is the goalkeeping situation with Nigerians unsure of who will man the sticks for the Super Eagles in their opening game against Equatorial Guinea five days from now.
One man seems to know the answer to this question though and it is the only man who is paid to do just that as the head coach of the Super Eagles.
Peseiro was more than happy to reveal that he already knows which of the three goalkeepers in the Super Eagles squad will start the first AFCON 2023 game.
Jose Peseiro knows the Super Eagles starting goalkeeper
After the friendly game against Guinea in Abu Dhabi in which the Super Eagles lost 2-0, Peseiro was asked about the goalkeeping situation and had this to say:
"Today Stanley played, I don't say for anyone the first eleven against Guinea Equatorial, in that moment I decide," said the manager in acknowledgement of the situation.
Peseiro gave a Super Eagles debut to Stanley Nwabali in that game against Guinea but was also keen to indicate that it doesn't mean the South Africa-based shot-stopper would start in Ivory Coast.
The Portuguese tactician did reveal that his decision on the starting goalkeeper has been made already although he wouldn't reveal it until necessary, "I know in my heart but in that moment I say for everybody."
Francis Uzoho is the clear favourite to retain his spot as the starting goalkeeper at AFCON 2023 as he has more experience than his counterparts, Stanley Nwabali and Ojo Olorunleke.
