Muhiddin initially had no plans of staying as head coach beyond the end of the season, but was convinced to have a change of heart and will be taking charge of the dockers for the 2023/2024 season.

Bandari’s veteran head coach Twahir Muhidin has explained the reasons he took the job on a permanent basis after initially stating he had no plans to stay on in the role beyond the end of the 2022/2023 season.

Muhidin was appointed interim coach following the sacking of Anthony Modo Kimani and under his tutelage, the side finished on an incredibly impressive run of form.

The former Harambee Stars tactician intended to carry on in his role as technical director, but will now occupy a general manager role for the 2023/2024 season.

“I did not intend to stay on in the job,” Muhidin told Pulse Sports, “It was my job to look for a coach while I resumed my role as technical director,” he added.

“The new board of directors  however had new targets themselves. They wanted a particular coach after I gave my two proposals. Unfortunately, they probably did not agree on terms because I was aside at the time.

“That is why they kept on convincing me to stay on. I initially did not want to stay on. I refused but they had to entice me by approaching some of my colleagues who talked me around. I could not say no to them.

“I will do the job diligently even if it is just for a season. I had to accept it out of peer pressure. We appointed a new technical bench and my job is to help them learn the ropes. Even if I leave the job, the team will be in safe hands.”

Bandari have made wholesale changes to the technical bench and are also planning on making changes to the playing staff, having released 11 players at the beginning of the month.

John Baraza has been appointed as the assistant coach, with former Gor Mahia custodian appointed goalkeeping coach. They have also appointed a new “board-certified” fitness coach Yussuf Ndere, as the club continues to reshape in order to edge closer to fulfilling its long-term ambition of winning an FKF Premier League title.
