Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has signed a new five-year contract after leading the club to Champions League qualification and here is why the club has extended his stay.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has signed a new five-year contract with the club after successfully guiding them into next season's Champions League.

The 52-year-old Spaniard has revitalized Villa since his arrival from Villarreal in October 2022, taking the club from 17th in the Premier League to fourth place in the current campaign.

His impressive turnaround has earned him a contract extension, keeping him at the helm until 2029.

Here are three reasons why Emery decided to renew his commitment to Aston Villa.

1. Outstanding performance and progress

Emery's impact at Villa Park has been transformative. In his first season, he guided the team to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League.

This campaign, Villa climbed even higher to secure fourth place, earning a coveted spot in the Champions League.

Chairman Nassef Sawiris lauded Emery's achievements, stating, "We are building something special here at Aston Villa with Unai at its core, and we are delighted that he has signed a new deal with the club until 2029."

2. European success and ambitions

Under Emery's stewardship, Villa has enjoyed a return to European competition.

The club reached the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League this season, marking their first European campaign in 13 years.

Emery's experience and success in European competitions have been instrumental in Villa's progress and ambitions.

"We are really excited to continue this journey with no limits to our dreams," Emery said.

"There’s a great chemistry in Aston Villa. And the element of the fans’ support also makes the difference to feel like home."

3. Record-breaking achievements

Villa's attacking prowess has flourished under Emery as the team scored 76 Premier League goals this season, their highest tally in a top-flight season for six decades.

Notably, they secured memorable victories against champions Manchester City at home and Arsenal twice.

Additionally, Villa achieved a remarkable run of 15 consecutive home league wins in 2023.

Sawiris emphasized the club's forward momentum, saying, "As we move into our historic, 150th anniversary year, there is a lot to look forward to with Unai at the helm."
