Ulinzi Stars coach Anthony Kimani joins CAF A coaching course, marking a significant stride in Kenya's football education and development.

Ulinzi Stars head coach Anthony Kimani, is among the 25 elite coaches who embarked on a significant journey today as they commenced their CAF A coaching course on Monday, October 16, 2023.

The CAF A coaching course, representing the second-highest level of certification offered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is a pivotal step for Kimani and his colleagues in advancing their coaching careers.

The prestigious course is part of Football Kenya Federation's (FKF) initiative to ensure that there is a cadre of highly qualified coaches capable of handling teams from grassroots to the professional level.

Reflecting on this significant progression, Anthony Kimani, who also serves as Ulinzi Stars' coach, emphasized the importance of the coaching pathway laid down by CAF.

"I am a part of the few coaches who have come up through the ranks and to follow the pathway that has been laid down by CAF. I started with my CAF D, went to the CAF C then B, and now I have the opportunity to do CAF A," he stated.

Among the esteemed coaches joining Kimani in the course are Beldine Odemba, coach of Harambee Starlets, and Bernad Kawinzi, assistant coach at Posta Rangers.

FKF Vice President, Doris Petra, highlighted the federation's commitment to education, stating, "We made a decision that the best teacher is the one that's educated, and that's why we've invested so much in coaching, refereeing, administrators, and instructor courses."

This occasion holds additional significance as it marks the first CAF licensing course to be offered since the current FKF administration assumed office.

The administration's focus on enhancing the educational aspect of coaching underscores its dedication to raising the standard of football in Kenya. "By now, you can see all instructors are Kenyan, and they have been trained through FKF," noted Doris Petra.

The partnership between FKF and the Kenyan Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) has played a pivotal role in advancing football in the country.

"If the FKF is empowering players and having those activities that can empower players and make coaches grow can make the game grow, as KEFWA we can give this a 100% support, and I believe we are heading in the right direction," said James Situma.

The CAF A coaching course, led by coaches Salim Ali and Francis Kimanzi, is set to run for six months.

This intensive program will not only enhance the technical skills of the participating coaches but also contribute to the overall growth and development of football in the country.
