Muchiri has been recalled to the national team for the first time since October 2021 ahead of Harambee Stars' crucial AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Cameroon.

Ulinzi Stars winger Boniface Muchiri is back in the Harambee Stars squad after a three-year absence, and while the road back to the national team has been long, he credits one person for keeping his spirits high—his mother.

Despite his impressive performances at club level, Muchiri had been overlooked for the national team since 2021. But with the unwavering support from his mother, he never gave up hope, and now, he’s determined to make the most of his return.

Muchiri last played for Kenya while he was with Tusker in 2021. Since then, the talented winger has flourished at Ulinzi Stars, recording nearly double digits in both goals and assists last season.

However, even with his standout performances, he remained out of the Harambee Stars picture, forcing him to rely on his faith and family for strength.

On October 2, Muchiri’s persistence paid off when he was named in coach Engin Firat's squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Cameroon. Speaking to Ulinzi Stars’ media, Muchiri expressed his joy and gratitude for the opportunity.

"I feel great; I'm happy and thankful for this opportunity. I’ve been working hard, and as they say, God's timing is perfect. I’m eager to give my best for the country and help achieve positive results."

Throughout his time away from the national team, Muchiri admitted that his mother played a pivotal role in keeping his spirits up.

"My mother always kept my spirits up. Whenever I felt discouraged, she reminded me to stay patient and keep working hard," he revealed. Her words became a source of comfort and motivation, especially during moments when his national team return seemed distant.

Muchiri also acknowledged the national team coaches, including head coach Engin Firat and assistant coach William Muluya, who continuously offered him support and advice, even when he wasn’t being selected.

Firat, in particular, reassured him that he was still part of the national team’s plans, while Muluya provided guidance during their encounters.

"The coaches were always in touch, even though I wasn't getting call-ups. After my first season at Ulinzi Stars, Coach Firat told me I was still in his plans. I later met Coach Muluya, who gave me advice after a game against Kariobangi Sharks. I took everything positively and kept working hard, knowing my time would come."

For Muchiri, the inclusion in the AFCON qualifiers is not just about proving himself on the field, but also about validating the support and belief his mother had in him. Her encouragement during those difficult three years has now turned into a source of pride, as he stands ready to represent Kenya once again.

With the guidance of his coaches and the relentless support of his mother, Boniface Muchiri’s return to the Harambee Stars is more than just a personal achievement—it is a testament to the power of patience, perseverance, and the encouragement of loved ones.

As he prepares to don the national colors again, Muchiri is determined to make every moment count, driven by the belief that his time has finally come.
